Otherwise known as the Blue Cheese Cheese Ball
The holidays are for getting together with friends and family to share food and fun. When you need a crowd-pleaser, and you need it to be something quick that you can do in advance, this is the dish you will want to bring. When you make this ahead of time the flavors meld and get better as it sits. This appetizer is one of my favorites to bring to gatherings. And if I had a signature dish this would be it. When my husband and I were first married we had a wonderful group of friends with whom we’d celebrate events, from birthdays to football games to Christmas and New Year’s. After one such event, a friend said this cheese ball was like the devil, so tempting and hard to walk away from. From that point on we’ve always called it the Devil’s Cheese Ball.
Devil’s Cheese Ball
12 oz cream cheese at room temperature
4 oz blue cheese crumbles
6 oz jar of Old English cheese spread (usually found next to the pasta sauce and Cheese Whiz)
1 tsp garlic powder or 2 finally minced garlic cloves
1 tsp onion powder
sliced or chopped almonds, pecans or walnuts for coating (optional) or toasted bread crumbs
With a mixer combine all ingredients expect the nuts. Form into a ball and refrigerate for a minimum of an hour.
